Dubai Police has urged residents to be alert of partially forged currencies and examine notes carefully.

Fraudsters separate the front and back side of a genuine dirham or dollar note and stick each of them to the opposite sides of a fake note, 'Khaleej Times' quoted Oqail Al Najar, Head of the Documents Scanning Section, General Department of Criminal Evidences and Criminology, as saying.

When the culprits pass on these notes to strangers, they fold it with the genuine side up. The fake side will be a forged copy of the corresponding side of a genuine note.

So far about 231 partial forging cases have been reported, he added. The forged notes come under Dh500, Dh100 and Dh20 denominations and dollars.
