A Pakistani family is appealing for help to pay for the treatment of their six-year-old daughter who suffered severe burns in various parts of her body while playing with fireworks and matches, a newspaper reported on Monday.

Maitha has had 16 operations to heal her skin at Latifa Hospital in Dubai. Her medical treatment has so far totalled Dh174,000 and now needs a special medical vest, which costs about Dh20,000, the Arabic language daily 'Emarat Al Youm' said.

Maitha was with her family visiting relatives in the Eastern oasis town of Al Ain nearly 10 months ago when she took the matches and fireworks and lit them in the bathroom (EAY)

Her mother rushed to the bathroom after hearing her screaming to find that the child was on fire. She struggled to put out the blaze and phoned her husband and medical services to transport her to hospital.

“My financial circumstances do not allow me to afford these expenses. I have five daughters aged up to 12 and my monthly salary is Dh17,000, of which I pay Dh4,000 for rent and Dh7,000 for banks and other expenses,” the father said.

“I appeal to all benevolent people to help me pay the medical bill for Latifa Hospital and to buy that vest for my daughter.”
