Fast not broken by incense smoke: Islamic centre

But fast will be broken if a Muslim smokes a cigarette

Muslims who inhale incense smoke do not break their fast during the holy month of Ramadan but they should avoid it, according to an official Islamic centre.

But Muslims will break their fast if they smoke a cigarette on the grounds a smoker inhales its smoke by using his own breath, said the Fatwa (Islamic edict) Centre at the General Department of Islamic Affairs and Endowments.

“Unlike cigarettes, smoke from incense does not break a Muslim’s fast even if it is inhaled deliberately… but it would be better to avoid inhaling incense smoke during Ramadan,” it said as quoted by Alkhaleej daily.
