An Asian family’s weekend outing in Dubai ended tragically this Friday.

George Joseph, 49, was with his wife and two kids at Mamzar beach, when he saw his youngest son drowning.

The father dived in instantly in an attempt to save his son, but in the process he lost his life.

“The son is safe but the father is dead. He did not know swimming and got trapped in the waves, while trying to rescue his son,” said a family friend.

Joseph, who was a pharmacist with Al Nazeem Pharmacy, has been a UAE resident for more than a decade.

A colleague who has worked with Joseph said, “Ten years we worked together and he was one of the best pharmacists.”

Joseph, hails from Kerala, India. He is survived by his wife Shiny George; daughter Sohia Joseph and son Ahil Joseph.

The body will be repatriated once the legal formalities are over.
