February recorded the most fatal accidents in Dubai in the first 10 months of this year, according to Dubai Traffic Police statistics.

Of the 135 people who lost their lives in road accidents this year, 30 people died in February, the data reveals.

Thursday was the most fatal day as it recorded the most number of accident deaths compared to other days of the week. Twenty-seven people died on Thursdays.

March followed close when 20 people died due to traffic-related accidents; July saw 14 deaths; May and August witnessed 13 deaths each; followed by 12 people in January and 11 in October.

Meanwhile, April witnessed nine deaths, followed by September, which witnessed seven deaths and June saw six deaths.

Friday followed Thursday in the number of accident deaths, which witnessed 25 people losing lives.

Sundays saw 19 causalties; Tuesdays saw 18 deaths and Wednesdays saw 16 deaths.

Saturdays and Mondays witnessed 15 deaths each.

 Meanwhile, the Statistics of Dubai Traffic Police showed a decline in the number accident deaths in recent years. While first 10 months of this year saw 135 deaths, last year witnessed 194 deaths.

This is a decline of 30.4 per cent and the mortality rate does not exceed 7.2 per cent per 100,000 inhabitants.

'Al soraha al qatela', a campaign launched by Dubai Traffic Police aims at reducing the rate of fatal accidents in the emirate to zero per 100,000 by 2020.
