The Higher Committee for Consumer Protection has told petrol stations to stop charging fees on credit cards used for fuel purchases, according to the Ministry of Economy.

The fee is Dh2 for each transaction at most stations.

The ministry, according to Emarat Al Youm, has stated that the committee has asked all fuel stations operating in the UAE to abolish these fees.

According to the report, the committee considered the imposition of these fees unjustified, especially after the decision to liberalise fuel prices.

The report also states the committee conducted a study on the prices of food and consumer goods sold at gas stations after receiving complaints of high prices.

Dr. Hachim Al Nuaimi, Director of the Consumer Protection Department stressed that the cancellation of these fees is aimed at ensuring consumer rights protection.

Consumers should contact the Consumer Protection Department call centre to report stations continuing to collect such fees.
