The Federal Electricity and Water Authority (Fewa) has signed two contracts with the Saudi National Contracting Company Limited (NCC) for commissioning a 33/11 kv  transmission station and upgrading a number of 33/11 kv and 132/33/11 kv stations in the western region (Ajman and Umm Al Quwain), central and eastern region (Fujairah and Dibba) and northern region (Ras Al Khaimah).

The contracts envisage civil and cable works, and geographical information systems (GIS) and will cater to demand from the north from 2013 up to 2018.

Works on the projects, which are worth Dh850 million, are expected to be completed in 15 months from date of signing the contracts.

Fewa Director General Mohammed Saleh, who signed the contracts with  NCC Executive Manager Abdul Malek Al Barahim, said these stations were part of the second phase of Fewa’s plan for building new stations and upgrading the operating ones at a total cost of Dh1.5 billion.

He said that more contracts for overhead power lines would be inked.

Once completed, he said, the second phase will boost Fewa’s grid capacity to receive power imported from Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority.
