Fewer people die in Dubai road accidents

Only 142 people lost their lives until end-November this year while 225 people died in traffic accidents during the same period last year.

Dubai winessed a decline in deaths due to traffic accidents in 2010. Number of deaths decreased 7.5 per cent per 100,000 of the population, according to Dubai Traffic Police.

Major Omar Mousa Ashour, Director of Incidents Planning, Dubai Traffic Police, said: "The total number of deaths until end-November this year hit 142 - a decline of 82 from last year, which recorded 225 deaths. October was the most fatal of months when 23 people lost their lives in accidents, While this October saw just 11 cases.

This year also recorded 161 cases of severe injuries in road mishaps, 509 medium cases where people were moderately hurt and 1,085 cases. While last year there were 169 people seriously injured, 729 moderately hurt and 1,311 minor cases.

Major Ashour said the decline is the result of the combined efforts of various departments.
