A Syrian student allegedly assaulted an Iranian engineer over a parking space at the Creek Park and caused him 30 per cent permanent disability, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On December 24 last year, Mohammed Hadi, 34, Iranian, was waiting for a car that was moving out of a parking space at the Creek Park.

“All of a sudden, a white Suzuki Swift overtook my car and parked in the space that I had been waiting for. I got down from my car and went to the driver of the Suzuki Swift and told him that I had been waiting for this parking space and so it is my right to use it first. He told me he does not care and asked me if I wanted to fight with him. I told him I didn’t want to fight.

"He then grabbed me with both his hands and tried to push me to the ground but could not. I asked him to stop but he held me again with his hands and raised one of my legs and pushed me to the ground with all his strength.

"I felt severe pain in my right arm. It was badly injured and a bone had got out of the skin. He did not stop and wanted to continue hurting me but ran away when he saw blood,” testified Hadi.

An Iraqi couple, who were also looking for parking space, saw the fight. Wasan Salim, 36, housewife, testified that she saw the driver of the Suzuki Swift lifting the other man up and throwing him to the ground.

“When he tried to run away, I moved towards him and opened his car’s door telling him that he should not run away. He was very angry, he pulled and closed the door .I opened the door again and asked him to stop but he closed the door and drove away,” she testified.

Her husband Omar Abdullatif, 44, a doctor, rushed to Mohammed Hadi and checked his hand. He repeated the testimony of his wife and said he found that his arm was fractured. 30 per cent permanent disability was assessed due to damage to the nerves.

MLM, 23, was later arrested and he admitted to the accusation but denied that he had intentionally caused permanent disability to the injured man.

The Court adjourned the case until December 15.
