Acting upon instructions by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to provide decent living and more economic and financial stability and welfare to citizens, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has ordered provision of jobs and allocations required for the promotion of 7,782 teachers, instructors, principals, deputy principals and administrators of the Ministry of Education.

The move underpins the State's recognition of the critical role a teacher plays in national development and its encouragement of educators based on the fact that education is the basis of development and the mainstay of progress, and that the wellbeing of the teacher is the building block of any modern state.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance, has instructed all departments at his ministry to immediately put the directives of the President and Vice-President in place.

The aggregate financial costs of these promotions, he said, would be at Dh368 million a year.

Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs, stated that the Ministry of Finance (MoF) is in the process of taking necessary measures to coordinate with the Ministry of Education (MoE) for programming the required jobs for promotion and financial allocations into the MoF's budget, so as to enable the MoE implement the new measures for promotion and adjustment of salaries of beneficiaries.

Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qattami, Minister of Education, paid gratitude and tribute to His Highness Sheikh Khalifa and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed for taking such a move, which he said, highlights the leadership's care and support for science and education.

In early 2012, President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan ordered a salary hike for federal government employees, including those in the Ministry of Education, by 35% of basic salary.

The decree also included a technical allowance of 100 per cent to be added to the work nature allowance for those working in the teaching field in the Ministry of Education.
