Fine up to Dh500 if you waste water in Sharjah

Sharjah Municipality cracksdown on residents who waste water unnecessarily. Those washing cars on roads and public spaces or spilling water on to driveways will be fined henceforth.

According to Arabic newspapers, the new rules are part of a campaign to save water.

Sultan Al Mualla, Director-General, Sharjah Municipality, said motorists caught paying 'car washers' who are not employed by authorised firms will be fined Dh250.

Similarly, residents caught washing their cars on streets or driveway will be fined Dh500. Building watchmen and security personnels who 'waste' water unnecessarily will also be slapped with Dh500 fine.

Car catches fire on road but driver escapes

A car caught fire in the middle of the road just outside Abu Dhabi city on Tuesday but its Gulf driver escaped after jumping out of the vehicle.

The man from another Gulf Arab country was heading out of the capital when the vehicle caught fire just after Almaqta bridge, nearly 20 km from the city centre.

Police rushed to the scene and removed the charred car after it blocked the road and caused a massive traffic build up in the area.
  
Dutch driver held after killing child on road

Saudi police arrested a Dutch man nearly three weeks after killing a little girl while she was crossing the road in the Gulf kingdom, press reports said on Wednesday.

The unidentified man did not stop when the knocked over the girl, triggering a massive police hunt in the western town of Madinam, Okaz Arabic language daily said.

Police found the car left near a house in a distant neighborhood and arrested the man three weeks after the accident.Under Islamic law, which is strictly enforced in Saudi Arabia, killers could be beheaded unless they pad diya (blood money) to the victim’s relatives.

Diya is set at SR300,000 for a Muslim victim in the kingdom but relatives are allowed to demand as much as they want.ends
