Three people died and about 20 others were injured, including three members of the civil defence, in separate fires in two apartments in Abu Dhabi on Monday.

Also on Monday, three-year-old Emirati twins, Marwan and Sultan, suffocated to death after a fire broke out on the first floor of their home in the Qadfa’a area in Fujairah on Monday, local media reported.

Their parents were not at home in Qadfaa area at the time of the accident while the housemaid was busy in the adjoining kitchen before she noticed the blaze in the other room, according to Emarat Al Youm.

Quoting Colonel Hamid Mohammad Al Yamahi, Director General of the Operations Room at Fujairah Police, Gulf Today, reported that the twins were sleeping in their room on the first floor when the fire broke out.

Abu Dhabi

The first fire in Abu Dhabi occurred in an apartment in a building on Electra Street which resulted in the death of a 39-year-old Palestinian and his three-year-old daughter. Though his father and mother survived, his 12-year-old daughter was also injured. Three members of the Civil Defence were also wounded.

In the second fire, an Asian died when he threw himself down from the ninth floor apartment of a building in the Tourist Club area of the UAE capital. Fifteen people were also injured.

Ambulance teams dealt with 10 cases, five of which were transferred to Khalifa Hospital.

Security forces worked to evacuate people in buildings where the fires took place and giving first aid to the injured.

Colonel Mohammed Ibrahim Al Amri, director of emergency management and public safety in Abu Dhabi Police, said quick response of the security forces prevented rise in the numbers of the dead and injured. The fires have been brought under control, he added.

Capt. Abdullah Al Tamimi, head of customer service and public relations at the General Directorate of Civil Defence in Abu Dhabi, urged the public not to crowd around sites of fires and accidents which makes entry of ambulances to the sites difficult.

Fujairah

In the Fujairah fire, after receiving a call from Central Operations at around 12:20pm, teams from the Civil Defence Department of Fujairah were dispatched to the scene.

Fire-fighters controlled the blaze and prevented the flames from spreading to the neighbouring rooms.
