Five Star hotel recipes made easy: Dubai author will light up your kitchen… and life with his amazing story

Cruz Dev Prasad has been without sight for six years, following a stroke.

At the time, Cruz worked as a finance controller for many five star hotels in the Gulf region.

Cruz hails from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and rather than allow his blindness to leave him depressed and sad, he has  turned his knowledge of the hospitality sector into a challenge.

Cruz has put pen to paper and has already published two books.

This October, Cruz released ‘Fabulous Five Star Goodies’, a collection of 100 recipes used in five star hotels that even an ordinary household can prepare.

Speaking to Emirates 24|7, Cruz said even though he lost his eyesight all of a sudden, his Filipino wife Sharon, a financial analyst at a bank here, has been working like what he calls a ‘little Mother Teresa’ to help him sail through the darkness.

Despite his total blindness he could complete the book thanks to technology that help him use his mobile phone and laptop.

The book contains chapters like ‘Amazing Arabia’, ‘Inspiring India’, ‘Hot and Spicy Lanka’, ‘Scintillating Singapore’, ‘Mesmerising Malaysia’, ‘Terrific Thailand’, and ‘Passionate Philippines’, among others.

Cruz says he was nicknamed Financial Chef, in hotels where he worked, because he used to scrutinise ingredients for the hotel menus according to weight and portions for costing purposes.

He has worked for several reputed international hotel chains like the Intercontinental Hotel (Abu Dhabi), Al Bustan Palace Hotel (Oman), Gulf Rotana Hotel (Oman), Movenpick Hotel (Kuwait), Armed Forces Offices Club/Hotel (Abu Dhabi), Coral Beach Hotel (Sharjah) and with the Abu Dhabi National Hotels (ADNH).

“Instead of withering away in depressive rhetoric, I have authored a unique book that contains 100 exotic and enthralling international 5 Star Hotel recipes, that can be prepared from an ordinary family’s kitchen,” he says.

Cruz and Sharon have two sons, Anthony and Mohan.
