A Palestinian man and a Pakistani teen age boy drowned off Sharjah on Saturday while they were swimming despite police warning because of high waves and strong currents, a newspaper said on Sunday.

The 38-year-old Palestinian was plucked out of the water on Khan beach and underwent resuscitation but he could not be saved.

Emirat Alyoum daily said the body of the 14-year-old Pakistani was found by the civil defence off Hira beach.

Meanwhile, heavy rain is expected across the UAE over the next few days, according to the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology.

Rain is expected to start over the eastern and northern parts of the UAE and gradually spread across the country.

Temperatures will drop slightly while fresh winds will lift sand at times.

Meteorologists at the centre have said the amount of rain recorded throughout winter and early spring has been less than the average. This year has also been slightly colder than usual.
