Reports claim the Abu Dhabi-Dubai highway is at a standstill since 8am with a multi-vehicle crash reported and emergency crew are on the scene.

It is unclear how many cars are involved in the crash but commuters have been reporting the “major accident” is situated on E11 Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Road near Al Shahama.

Commuters are warning others to watch out for vehicles driving or stationary on the hard shoulder, prompting Dubai Police to reiterate the warning: “Overtaking at prohibited places endangers your life and the lives of others.”

A commuter also tweeted: “Too many vehicles have stopped on the shoulder on E11 due to poor visibility. Please be very careful and do not overtake via the breakdown lane.”

A similar situation is reported between Al Ain and Abu Dhabi at Al Khazna, with visibility down to 50 metres, according to eyewitnesses.

Meanwhile, another crash is reported on the access road from Dubai Investments Park towards Sheikh Zayed Road.  The accident is reportedly just before the exit to the highway.

Heavy fog is also being reported on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road near Sports City.

Further down the highway and a seven-vehicle fender bender was reported on the bridge connecting 2nd December Street to Sheikh Rashid Road, heading towards Al Garhoud Bridge.

An eyewitness spoke to Emirates 24|7 saying: “The seven vehicles are on the two-lane bridge, heading towards Al Garhoud, located at a sharp turn there so it’s difficult to see them until you are almost upon them. And the dense fog isn’t helping.

“The vehicles have blocked one of the two lanes on the bridge and traffic is piling up.”

Meanwhile, earlier today, an accident was on reported on E311, exiting Ras Al Khaimah, near the Umm Al Quwain-Emirates Road intersection with reportedly 20 vehicles involved.

Ras Al Khaimah Police have issued an alert stating: “Be alerted to danger signals while driving in the fog. We call on all drivers to exercise caution while driving due to the fog and low visibility.”
