A combination of foggy mornings and speeding left one traffic policeman seriously injured and one Arab dead as Dubai saw at least five major accidents across the Emirate between Thursday night and Saturday morning.

The policeman, who the Dubai Police asked not to identify, was on patrol on the Emirates Road, when a driver identified as SR, due to dense fog early on Friday morning collided with the patrol car.

The officer was seriously injured and taken to Rashid Hospital for treatment.

A 25-year-old Arab man identified as KH died at around 1am on Thursday when he lost control of his vehicle near Al Khawaneej roundabout. The driver died on the spot, while his companion was severely injured.

The traffic police said the man had been speeding.

In another accident on the Al Medina Al Amaya street, an Asian driver identified as HN was speeding and smashed into another car driven by a lady.

While HN escaped with minor injuries, the other car caught fire and the lady was seriously injured.

A fourth incident occurred on Al Manama Street in the Abu Hail area where a pedestrian of Asian nationality was hit by an Emirati. The pedestrian escaped with moderate injuries.
