Forging rent contracts topped the list of violations of the residency laws and regulations in the emirate, according to top official.

Speaking to Emirates 24|7, Chancellor Ali Humaid bin Khatem, Advocate General and Head of Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Prosecution said that they have received an increasing numbers of such cases in the past two years.

He pointed out that this type of violation is mainly committed by Arabs and Asians.

“We have been seeing many such cases. These are mainly committed by Arabs and Asian who tend to forge their rent contracts in order to be able to sponsor their families and bring them to live here in the country.”

He pointed out that they mainly forge in the size of the place where they live in.

“They mainly lie and say they are living in separate apartments or villas, or even bigger places. As per the laws, they can not sponsor their families if they don’t have enough and decent place for them to live in.  A worker must be capable of supporting his or her family and also able to offer them decent accommodation here. It is a must and a serious requirement to grant them good living here.”

Advocate General Ali pointed out that since the beginning of last year, they have seen an increase is such illegal practices. “We have seen more than 100 cases last year, and still the numbers are increasing this year. It is important that people abide by the Residency Laws and regulations, and do not try to lie or forge documents.”

He pointed out that if caught, those who forge such documents end up in jail between three to six months, and also other fines.

“Residents must be more aware of the laws here. They must abide by the laws to avoid being caught and punished. They should not listen to the offices or middle men who encourage them to violate the laws in return of money,” he concluded.
