Four Asian workers died in an early morning fire on Thursday at a congested labour accommodation in Mussafa area of Abu Dhabi.

The fire that gutted labour accommodation caused the death of four Asian workers and one worker who was serious due to suffocation and smoke inhalation was admitted to a hospital in Abu Dhabi, according to details released by Abu Dhabi Civil Defence.

The fire erupted in a warehouse where labourers of various companies were staying.  The labourers were believed to hail from Bangladesh and Nepal but there was no official version on the nationalities of the dead.

Colonel Mohammad Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Civil Defence in Abu Dhabi, said the fire started at 5.53 am on Thursday and it totally gutted four beds. Civil Defence officials said that the fire could have been the result of poor electrical wiring, but an investigation is on to find out the exact causes.

Colonel Mohammad Al Nuaimi warned companies against using warehouses as accommodation for labourers.
