Free parking in Abu Dhabi on Thursday

The Department of Transport (DoT) in Abu Dhabi has announced free parking for vehicles in surface public parking bays during holiday to mark the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him). Surface parking bays will be free as of midnight (12:00 AM) Thursday December 24, and until 8am of Saturday December 26, 2015.

DoT called on motorists not to park their vehicles in prohibited areas and not to block vehicles or traffic flow. DoT has also urged the public to adhere to regulations regarding the resident permit parking bays from 9pm to 8am.

DoT said its customer care centres in Electra Street, Al Muroor Street, Al Falah, Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Abu Dhabi Commercial Properties (ADCP) and Etisalat will be closed as of Thursday 24 December 2015 and until Friday 25 December 2015. These customer care centers will resume work Saturday 26 December 2015.

The customer care centre in Central Market (Al Souq Al Markazi) will be also closed on Thursday and it will open on Friday 25 December from 3pm to 9pm. DoT HQ customer care centre will remain closed from 24 to 26 December 2015 and work will resume on Sunday 27 December 2015.

Free parking in Dubai on Thursday

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the service timings of its services during the holiday marking the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed (MPBUH) covering customers service centres, paid parking zones, public buses, Dubai metro and tram, marine transit modes, driving institutes and vehicles testing and registration centres.

Moaza Al Marri, Director of Marketing & Corporate Communication at RTA, said: “All customer service centres  will be off duty during the holiday of the Prophet’s Birthday which corresponds to Thursday 24 December 2015, and will resume duty on Sunday 27 December 2015.

Accordingly, all paid parking zones in the Emirate of Dubai will be free of charge, except for the Fish Market parking lot and the multi-level parking terminal. The exemption will run from Thursday December 24 and the parking fees system will be reactivated starting from Saturday December 26.”

“During the Prophet’s Birthday holiday, the Red Line of the Dubai Metro on Thursday December 24 will start at 5.30am and continue up to 1am of the following day. The service of the Green Line on Thursday December 24 will start at 5.50am up to 1.00am of the following day.

Dubai Tram services on Thursday December 24   will start at 6.30am and continue up to 1.00am of the following day.

“The timings of public buses (Dubai Bus) will be as follows: Public Buses and Main Stations (such as Gold Souk), the service will be from 4.25am up to 1.00am of the following day. Al Ghubaiba Station will start at 5am and continue up to 12.10am (past midnight). In subsidiary stations (such as Satwa), the service will be from 5am up to 11.15pm, except for Route C01; which will be operating around-the-clock. Al Qusais Station will open at 4.40am and continue service up to 10.50pm, whereas Jebel Ali Station will be on duty from 5.40 am up to 9.45pm.

“Metro stations feeder bus service at Abu Hail, Al Rashidiya, Mall of the Emirates, Ibn Battuta, Burj Khalifa and Etisalat will offer service from 5.15 am up to 1.10am of the following day and the timing of the feeder service will match the timing of the metro service.

“The operational timing of inter-city bus service will be as follows: Main stations such as Ghubaiba will provide 24-hour service to Sharjah (Jubail), and from 5am to 11.40pm to Abu Dhabi. Subsidiary stations, such as the Union Square, will operate from 4.30am up to 1.30am of the following day. Sabkha Station will be on service from 6am up to 1.30 of the following day. Deira Station will open from 5.35 am up to 11.30pm, Karama Station will open from 6.10am up to 10.20 pm. External stations will offer services as follows: Ajman Station from 4.30am to 11.30pm, Fujairah and Hatta Stations will be operational from 6am to 10.05pm,” explained Al Marri.

About the timings of marine transit services during  Prophet’s Birthday holiday, Al Marri said: “The Water Bus will be operating at the Marina and Ghubaiba Stations from 9am to 10pm. Dubai Ferry will operate 3 trips at Al Ghubaiba Station in the direction of Dubai Marina Mall, and 3 trips at the Marina Station to Al Ghubaiba at 11am, 1pm and 6.30 pm, and the trip will last for one hour. Another trip will be operated at the Dubai Marina Station at 3pm heading towards Burj Al Arab, and a further trip at 5pm heading to Atlantis Hotel, The Palm. A trip will move from Al Ghubaiba Station at 3pm within Dubai Creek, and at 5pm heading to Jumeirah Beach.

“Diesel-powered abras will run service during the Prophet’s birthday holiday at the Dubai Creek (Al Ghubaiba, Dubai Old Souk, Baniyas, Sabkha) from 10am up to 12 midnight. Electrical Abras will operate during the holiday as follows: Atlantis Abra from 1pm up to 1am (of the following day), Global City Abra from 4pm up to 1am (of the following day), Burj Khalifa-Dubai Mall Abra from 6pm up to 11.30 pm, and Al Mamzar Abra from 5pm up to 1am of the following day.

“All vehicles testing and registration centres will be off duty Thursday December 24 and will resume duty on Saturday December 26, except for Tasjeel Al Qusais, Tasjeel Al Barsha, Quick Vehicle Testing & Registration Centre at Al Qusais, and Platinum Vehicle Testing Centre at Dubai Mall; which will be operational during the holiday,” added the Director of Marketing & Corporate Communication at the RTA.
