Abu Dhabi Police has rescued a French man who had accidentally fallen into a well on a farm at night.

Police received a call on Sunday morning from a farmer, saying that a man is trapped in one of the farm’s wells in Al Khuraima on the Razeen road between Al Ain and Abu Dhabi.

Immediately after receiving the call, police squads, including the Civil Defence, ambulance and rescue vehicles, as well as security patrol vehicles rushed to the scene, where they found the 34-year-old man (‘MN’), trapped in the 25-metre  well for almost four hours. The well had five metres of water.

According to Lt. Colonel Hamid Al Afari, Director of Bani Yas Police Station, the man was driving off-road near an agricultural area, when his vehicle got stuck in the sand at around 3am. As he wandered off looking for wooden planks to wedge under the stuck tyres, he trespassed into a farm and fell down the 25-metre well.

“On the following morning, a farm labourer heard the man’s distress calls as he was passing nearby and called the police.  The man managed to stay alive by holding on to the main water pipe inside the well.  The man was pulled out of the well and was taken to Mafraq Hospital,” said Lt. Colonel Al Afari.
