Heading to the Gitex can, among other things, help you get rid of your traffic violations.

Yes, you heard it right.

Dubai Police has charted out a unique opportunity for traffic violators to have their black points reduced, if they attend their workshop at Gitex.

This was tweeted on Dubai Police’s official twitter handle today.

“Don't miss the free charge 8 black pts deduction during your visit to our stand at #GITEX &attending our workshops,” it read.

Within minutes of this post, a resident wrote; “@DubaiPoliceHQ Good Move to make drivers on lovely Dubai roads to be more responsible.”

A detailed list of the timings for each workshop was posted with the tweet.

Earlier, Dubai Police had given traffic offenders an opportunity to reduce up to eight black points from their licence if they attended four lectures on road safety.

Violators were also asked to pay fines to get rid of their points.

However, those drivers who had clocked 24 points were not allowed to benefit from the opportunity.

The black point system was set up by the Dubai Police to combat bad driving.

According to the system, each traffic violation incurs fines and a certain number of black points. The points are automatically added to the owner of the vehicle, irrespective of who was driving the vehicle at the time.

There is an option to transfer the points to the driver later on.

If a driver gets more than 24 points, they will be banned from driving any vehicle for an entire year.

Dubai Police also introduced a white-point system to reward good drivers. It allowed them to cancel their black points and win gift vouchers.

Gitex Technology Week runs until October 24 at the World Trade Centre.
