The UAE residents will soon be able to use Emirates ID card to withdraw money from the ATM machines.

Al Hilal Bank has announced that it will soon be the first bank in the UAE to allow customers to use their Emirates ID cards to make ATM cash withdrawals.

The service will be ready within the year. The ground-breaking initiative reflects Al Hilal Bank’s commitment to the innovative delivery of convenience and technology-driven services to its valued customers.

This ambitious project is one of the key outcomes of the strategic partnership agreement signed by Al Hilal Bank and Eida in January 2013.

It allows the bank to apply the advanced capabilities of the Eida ID cards to all services it provides at all its branches across the UAE. Information embedded in the ID is obtained via an e-Reader to simplify and speed up service delivery and enhance the ability to verify a client’s identity while protecting their personal interests.

Al Hilal Bank’s agreement with Eida has made it the first bank in the UAE to be authorised to integrate the functionalities of the Emirates ID with its operations. Key information such as name, passport number and nationality are automatically populated from the cards to Al Hilal’s core systems to streamline and speed up transactions such as the processing of new accounts.

This latest achievement was made possible through Al Hilal Bank’s proven ability as an industry innovator and its solid technology infrastructure, both of which allow smooth integration of Eida card information into the bank’s database.

“We were the first bank to cooperate with Eida on the unique idea of using their card’s stored information to simplify and streamline the bank account opening process, which we successfully implemented in 2013. This time we will be the first bank to allow the use of Emirates IDs for ATM withdrawals. This concretizes our philosophy of providing pioneering and cutting-edge services to our customers,” said Mohamed Jamil Berro, the Group CEO of Al Hilal Bank.

A progressive Islamic bank known for several industry innovations, Al Hilal Bank introduced the world’s First ‘Qibla Locator’ Credit Card; ‘eGrab,’ the world’s first 100 per cent electric mobile bank; the UAE’s first thumb verification system for banking transactions; and the first use of digital pens for banking transactions in the Middle East, among many other pioneering ideas.
