More than two years after it was first abandoned by its residents, the mystery at Building Number 33 continues.

This particular building in an otherwise bustling Al Khail Gate community has been vacant ever since some employees of the McDonald’s fast food chain vacated the place when they feared unexplained damages to its structure.

Emirates 24|7 had reported about the incident in November 2011. Read: Mystery of abandoned building in Dubai.

A security guard manning the entrance of the building said maintenance work is finally in progress, but would take months to complete.

“The internal structure of the building needs a lot of repairs. Work is in progress,” he said.

Emirates 24|7 again visited the place this week and found some activity within the building. Two men were seen leaving the structure and getting into a pick-up truck.

“We are from the maintenance company. Everything needs repair. From kitchen fittings, to the air-conditioning to the bathrooms… everything is in disarray. It needs a lot of repair,” one of the men said.

Construction material were piled up in a corner within the parking area, indicating that some work in progress.

“It will take several months for the work to be complete,” the maintenance team added.

Al Khail Gate is managed by Salwan, a subsidiary of Dubai Properties Group.
