A teen Emirati girl died and her two younger sisters and a brother were injured in a freak road accident in Ras Al Khaimah on Saturday afternoon.

The crash occurred on Suhaila Street near the emirate’s Saqr Public Park, said Brigadier Ahmed Ghanem Ghanem of RAK Police.

The girl was 19 years old, while her younger sisters are aged 11 and 4, respectively. Her brother, the driver of the car, is 18 years old.

Police said the accident happened when the mobile phone that the driver was holding fell from his hand. As he tried to catch it, the car he was driving veered off the track and crashed into a truck parked on the shoulder of the road.

Civil defence vehicles, police cars and ambulances rushed to the scene of the accident and took the injured to Saqr Hospital.

The eldest sister was the most seriously injured since she was sitting in the front seat of the car, which led to her death on Sunday morning. The other three occupants of the car, who were hurt, are receiving treatment in hospital. The deceased girl’s body has been handed over to her relatives for burial.
