With majority of the residential areas in Dubai being off-limits for animals, renting options are indeed limited to pet owners. The recent furore over the “pet ban” in Dubai Marina just highlights the problem further.

In a bid to make the process a tad easier, Emirates24|7 does the groundwork to list out pet-friendly areas in the emirate.

Arabian Ranches

Not only are these freehold townhouses and villas pet-friendly, this gated community along Emirates Roads also houses exclusive pet shops and veterinary clinics.

Most properties are spacious, with ample storage facilities, and offer large gardens that are great for animals to play in. Some villas even have large open balconies that are ideal to keep cats. The high garden walls are also a safety feature.

There’s even numerous parks, walkways, and lakes that are ideal spots to walk your pet. There are designated bins across the community to dump pet waste.

Green Community

Like the Arabian Ranches, even this community in Dubai Investment Park (DIP) offers shops and clinics that are exclusive for pets. In fact, the area boasts an exclusive pet park and seven-star pet hotel.

The villas and apartments are spacious, and the gardens are a perfect place to spoil your pets. There is also good walking trails and parks that welcome animals.

The Greens and The Views

These apartment blocks, just off the Emirates Golf Club, is another favourite spot to house your furry friends. Pet care clinics or shops are easily accessible from this residential area. Neighbouring Al Barsha and Al Quoz are peppered with numerous options that are ideal for pet owners.

The shaded walking paths and parks are perfect to walk your pets, and property developer Emaar advices residents to keep their animals on a leash at all times. The big balconies, and the 3-bed-ground-floor apartments with gardens are good for the animals.

The Views also has many walkways and a lake that’s the favourites among dog-walkers, and a grocery store that stocks products for the owner and the pet.

However, there are some areas like the gym and the swimming pool that are off-limits for animals. And, it has a leash-at-all-times rule as well.

Springs and Meadows

Residents in this freehold township are allowed to keep pets. Situated off Interchange 5 of Shaikh Zayed Road, these form a part of Emirates Living.

The community has markets that stock pet food and accessories, a veterinary hospital, and even a pet-sitting centre.

The community is well spread out, and offers ample options to exercise your tired muscles, and those of your pets'. Most villas have gardens, and the community area is lined with good walking tracks.

However, pets aren't allowed in the sports areas, swimming pool and in parks, and property developer Emaar insists that the animals must be kept on a leash at all times. Bins are lined on the walkways for dog/cat waste.

Mirdif

Many residential blocks in this area are open to housing animals, but at the discretion of the landlord. Dubai Property owned Ghoroob allows residents to keep their pets. The apartments come with big balconies and the community area has good walking paths.

The area also has many pet shops and clinics, and ample area to walk the animals.

Jumeirah Lake Towers

Apart from luxurious pet-grooming centres, the JLT offers lavish areas to walk your pets. While the park might be restricted, the pathways around the lake are not. In fact, many restaurants and cafes allow dogs in their outside seating areas. Landlords, however, reserve the right over whether animals are allowed boarding or not.

Victory Heights

This community inside Dubai Sports City is another good option for animal-lovers, with lots of open spaces and parks. Although it has pet shops, medical help is just around the corner at Arabian Ranches.

The animals are required to be on a leash at all times, when in public area, the owners must be cautious about cleaning their animals and ensuring they don't leave behind any pet food.

What you need to know

In Dubai, every pet has to be registered at the municipality where they are assigned a unique tag, and must be vaccinated and micro-chipped.
