Gulf customs union begins January 2015, says Al Zayani

Dr. Abdullatif Bin Rashid Al Zayani, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, said the GCC Customs Union will go into effect on January 1, 2015.

A GCC committee will be formed in this respect comprising Customs directors in the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Al Zayani made his remarks on the sidelines of the meeting of Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ADCCI). The ADCCI's chairman and members along with a number of businessmen participated in ADCCI's meeting.

The GCC Secretary General stressed that the 32nd GCC summit held in Riyadh had issued several directives to overcome all the obstacles impeding the establishment of the Gulf customs union.

He added that today's meeting comes upon the directives of GCC leaders, pointing out that the private sector is one of the key elements for the success of the cooperation process to achieve full citizenship among the GCC countries through cooperation and coordination.
