With summer temperatures spiking to 45-50 degree Celsius, it’s crucial we protect ourselves from the scorching sun.

The Sharjah Municipality, through their official Instagram account, has issued pointers on the warning signs, and how to get it treated.

Heat exhaustion, they explain, is a “medical condition that occurs when the person loses large amount of fluids and salts as a result of being exposed to hot weather and high humidity”.

The symptoms to watch out for are:

1. Exhaustion

2. Headache, dizziness and nausea

3. Blurry vision and thirst

4. Abdomen muscle spasms, and cramps in lower limbs due to lack of salt

5. Pale, cold and humid skin

6. Heavy breathing

7. Low blood pressure

8. Losing consciousness

In case, you find someone suffering from these symptoms, here are a few steps that you could take to save them.

1. Move the person to a cold place, give them fluids, and call for medical help

2. Lay the person on a flat surface, and raise their foot 20-30 cm off the ground

3. Remove all tight clothing from the person

4. Place water towels on the person, to help bring down the body temperature

5. If the person has lost consciousness, then  try to revive him/her using CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation).
