Ras Al Khaimah Police successfully rescued an elderly Emirati who was lost in the desert.

The 52-year-old man was reportedly travelling on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road when he veered off and lost his way.

Captain Tariq Al Sharhan, head of ambulance and rescue department, said the operations room received information about a person lost and the team immediately set into action.

Ambulances, patrol vehicles as well as a helicopter were pressed into action.

The citizen was apparently returning from a tour when his vehicle got stuck in the sand and he had no idea of the place.

It took the police team a while to spot him, because he was in an inner area.

An Asian farmworker reportedly guided the rescue team to the Emirati.

The motorist was tired and suffering from fatigue when discovered.

He was administered necessary medical aid and transferred to hospital immediately.

Capt. Al Sharhan called on public to inform the relevant authorities before they undertake such travels.

He also urged public to take safety precautions while travelling.
