Honeytrap seals fate of Sharjah robbers

Facebook style operation helped friends trace a burglar in Sharjah after an Indian was robbed while walking along a deserted street on Thursday night near Abu Shagara in Sharjah.

Sajin, who works for a company in Dubai, along with his friends, however, successfully managed to identify one of the men. They laid a trap and caught him near a shopping mall in Rolla the next day.

Narrating the incident, Sajin said he was walking near King Faisal street to his friend’s room when the incident occurred.

“A group of four men suddenly appeared in front of me. They were armed with knives and three of them had masks. They took away Dh500 and my mobile phone,” said Sajin.

Sajin narrated the incident to his friends. “One of my friend’s friend apparently knew a guy who was involved in such activities. When I described the way he looked it almost matched his appearance. We decided to trap him,” he said.

Fully aware that he had a weakness for women, they made a woman call him asking him to meet her at a particular spot in Rolla.

“On Friday afternoon he came there and it was the same guy who had threatened me with a knife and took away my phone and money,” added Sajin.

The suspect, a 21-year-old Indian, SL, said he joined the gang after he lost his job in a construction company. He also revealed the identity of the other men and said they belonged to Kasargod district.

“We managed to retrieve the mobile phone from him. He had thrown away my SIM card,” he said.  SL has been turned over to Sharjah Police.
