The directorate of Traffic and Patrols, Abu Dhabi Police, have confirmed that 1,837 drivers were caught driving their vehicles at speeds exceeding 200 kmph and above.

“This was during the last four months of the year and the cases are with prosecutors for legal action,” Brigadier Khamis Ishaq Mohammed, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, Abu Dhabi Police, said.

He pointed to the continuous follow-up and field efforts are on for the roads of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region.

He pointed out that Abu Dhabi Traffic also conducts aerial surveillance on all roads to locate traffic jams which helps traffic patrols ensure the smooth flow of traffic.

He also pointed to the ADP traffic safety strategy that aims to reinforce  a traffic awareness culture among young drivers regarding the risks of exceeding the legal speeds and racing on the roads. This will be achieved through awareness lectures organized at universities and schools, as well as communicating with young drivers through social networking sites to improve their driving behavior.
