How spit-and-steal trick went wrong in Sharjah

Sharjah Police arrested two African nationals for stealing money from bank clients by tricking them.

Colonel Ibrahim Al Ajil, Director, Criminal Investigation Department, explained the modus operandi of the thieves: “They would follow customers coming out of banks. And one of them would first spit on the victim. Then he would stop the person to apologise profusely and embrace the victim. Meanwhile, the other suspect would pick the victim’s pocket and flee with the money.”
 
Col. Ajil said police had received several complaints from victims and a team had set out to nab the suspects.

The duo was caught red-handed, while attempting to trick an unsuspecting bank customer.
 
Col. Ajil said the two confessed to the crime and their case is transferred to the Public Prosecution.

He urged bank customers to be vigilant when stepping out with money.
