How to avoid buying flawed products in UAE

To provide better service in alerting the people of the UAE to unsafe, hazardous or defective products, Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council has launched a website to report dangerous products and their flaws to ensure safety of consumers.

Manaa is a publicly available portal for all consumers that allow them to identify and search recalled products that do not comply with safety requirements. Besides this, the system also allows consumers to report injuries and incidents caused by consumer products to increase awareness.

For example, as a parent, if you want to buy a toy for your child, you will most likely step into the nearest store but it’s highly unlikely that you will be told how safe or unsafe the seemingly harmless toy may be.

Now, that safety information is publicly available. As a smart parent, you can first log onto www.manaa.ae and check the safety standard of the toy you want for your child. Here, you will come to know of any products that have been recalled in the UAE due to safety reasons.

Such websites are already very popular in the Western markets. Some of these offer safety advice with information on various products right from cars to toys to products on personal grooming. On the other hand, there are some niche websites that cover only one category, for example, food items.

This initiative will help Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council’s objective of providing services that live up to quality and conformity standards, boost infrastructure towards sustainable development and raise the quality of the traded products in order to enhance consumers trust and achieve competitiveness in the business and industrial sectors.

“It’s a very good move. We do hear about recalled products in the UAE from time to time. Now, with such a website, consumers will know exactly what is safe to buy and what is not,” said Krisha Nath, an Indian resident living in Dubai.
