The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced five Bangladeshis to ten years in jail each followed by deportation for human trafficking and forcing into prostitution of three girls involved in two separate cases.

In the first case, the court sentenced three convicts for trafficking in a 26-year-old woman. It acquitted a fourth.

The victim testified that her ill mother had received a call from woman who offered me a job as a maid in the UAE.

“I agreed to support my ill mother. My visa was arranged and I was received by one of the accused upon my arrival at the airport. He took my passport and dropped me at a house claiming that my sponsor will come an pick my up in the morning. Two days later, two of the accused told me that I shall work in prostitution. But as I refused they beat me and a woman joined them in that. The accused transferred me among four flats to practice prostitution. They used to guard the flats and one day I could run away. I observed where the guard kept the key when he slept. I took the key, opened the door and took a taxi to the police station,” she testified.

Police raided the flat and arrested the accused.

In the other case, two convicts MBH, a worker and NTM, a jobless woman, received ten years in jail each followed by deportation for trafficking in two girls and confining them for the sake of forcing them into prostitution.

The two girls aged 20 and 28 were brought from their home country via recruitment office there to work as maids in the UAE. Upon their arrival they were confined and forced into prostitution after beatings and threats.

The first victim testified that she was confined in a flat and was beat and forced into prostitution for two months before should could run away.

“The accused brought another girl ten days after my arrival and confined her with me. They forced her also into prostitution. The accused used to transfer us from a place to another with constant guard. I agreed with the other girl to run away. She claimed severe stomach pain. The accused rushed her to the hospital with a 25-year-old man. On our way we ran away from him, entered a shop and told the owner that the man is forcing us into prostitution. The owner of the shop called the police who arrested our guard and the woman in the flat,” she testified.
