Illegal tenants evicted in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi’s authorities evicted hundreds of tenants from houses and buildings in the first five months of 2015 in line with a law banning the overcrowding of housing units by bachelors and workers to ensure safety for the residents.

The tenants were evicted from 183 housing units, while 725 other units were notified to leave following the issuance of new regulations in the emirate banning landlords from renting property to many bachelors for security and hygienic reasons.

A report by the Abu Dhabi municipality, published in the Arabic language daily 'Al Khaleej', said 434 other offences involving renting villas to bachelors were referred to the prosecutor to take the necessary legal measures against the violators.

The report said tenants evicted and those who were notified to leave their housing units would be relocated to labour housing complexes constructed in the outskirts of the capital to tackle the problem, which officials say has spawned unnecessary security, social and health problems in residential areas.

“The municipality is working to intensify inspection of housing units in the emirate to ensure compliance with the rules and prevent violations by the landlords and tenants.”
