The Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) announced that it will host the “ID World Abu Dhabi 2012” Summit on March 18-19 at the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR). The event is under the patronage of Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Deputy Chairman of the Emirates Identity Authority, and endorsed by the European Commission.

The fifth annual EMEA Summit will include working papers of over 60 local and international entities. It brings together representatives of government bodies, experts and leaders in the industry of “smart” ID and digital identity systems. In addition, around 20 international prominent companies will attend the exhibition to be held on the sidelines of the event.

Dr. Engineer Ali Mohamed Al Khouri, Director General of Emirates ID, has extended the deepest thanks and gratitude to Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Deputy Chairman of the Emirates Identity Authority, for his kind patronage of the ID World Abu Dhabi 2012.

Al Khouri confirmed that such kind sponsorship reflects the UAE’s leadership keenness on supporting and enabling “knowledge-based societies” through sponsoring similar global events, especially in light of the Cabinet announcement a few days ago on endorsing the federal electronic government plan till 2014. The top official highlighted the role played by the EIDA in bolstering the UAE’s shift to electronic services.

Al Khouri noted that Abu Dhabi will host this global summit, pointing out that ID World Abu Dhabi Summits received an overwhelming response and distinguished global participation over the past years. This stresses the great success of the UAE in organizing and hosting such global events efficiently.

The sponsorship and organization of this Summit comes in line with EIDA’s efforts to support knowledge-based societies in the state, enhance the culture of digital identity and introduce EIDA’s projects, initiatives and future role in bolstering the electronic government. This also mirrors EIDA’s keenness on sharing experience and realizing the best international standards in the level of identity systems, in a way that serves its strategy for 2010-2013.

Al Khouri called on public and private authorities to take part in the Summit that serves as a platform for decision makers in the region, to capitalize on the successful international standards in spreading applied awareness of advanced ID systems.

Sophie B. de la Giroday, President of Wise Media, stressed that EIDA’s prominent success in developing the infrastructure required for providing population data, proving personal ID and supporting e-governments in the UAE provided a catalyst for many prime figures and authorities worldwide to participate in ID World Abu Dhabi 2012. B. de la Giroday also commended the role of the 2011 Summit which gathered elite decision makers on the international level. She added that this year’s Summit will be attended by Gamawan Fauzi, Interior Minister of Indonesian who will give a speech in the opening session.

The agenda of the Summit, to be attended by approx. 400 luminaries and public figures worldwide, will host three main forums: The Citizen ID Forum, the Transportation Security Forum and the Asset Tracking Forum. The Summit will also address several topics with regard to the future of Digital ID, wireless technology, healthcare technologies as well as PC and smart mobile applications.
