A Chinese identified as SAN, 26, confessed before Dubai Misdemeanour Court to selling pirated CDs of pornographic films and pictures in addition to overstaying accusations made against him by Dubai Prosecution.
Police have confiscated 312 CDs of pirated movies and other 26 CDs that contained pornography.
The accused confessed before the prosecution that he used to sell CDs of movies for Dh10 and those of porn films and pictures for Dh15. He told investigators that he had bought each CD from a compatriot for Dh2.
The accused, who arrived in the country seven months ago, told investigators that he failed to leave the country upon visit visa expiry as he did not have enough money. He started this business – selling pirated CDs of movies and porn films last month.
The Dubai Public Prosecution has accused SAN of selling intellectual property without having a right and without obtaining the necessary approval from the concerned authorities and right holders, possessing CDs for trading purpose, and overstaying in the country.
The case was adjourned until September 20 for the defence to submit its memorandum.
