Illegal hiring: Company fined Dh450,000

The UAE’s top court fined a company manager a total Dh450,000 after he was found guilty of hiring five illegal migrants, including four infiltrators.

The Federal Supreme Court (FSC) overturned a ruling by the court of cassation which itself had overturned a previous sentence and acquitted the defendant.

A court of first instance had fined the manager of the contracting company Dh450,000 for hiring one illegal resident and four other expatriates who had infiltrated into the UAE. An appeals court upheld the sentence before it was abolished by the court of cassation.

This promoted the prosecution to appeal the verdict with FSC, which overturned the verdict and re-imposed the Dh450,000-fine on the manager.

The FSC said it decided to sentence the manager after evidence showed he hired five illegal migrants in violation of immigration and labour laws.
