India have Lanka’s Malinga in a slinger

Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni hit an unbeaten 55 and Irfan Pathan picked up five wickets to propel India to a 26-run win against host Sri Lanka in a World Twenty20 warm-up match on Saturday.

Dhoni struck three sixes and four boundaries in his 42-ball innings to take India to 146 for five in 20 overs after being put in a precarious position when losing five wickets for 51. Together with Rohit Sharma, Dhoni shared 78 runs for the fifth wicket at P. Sara Oval.

Sharma made 37 with four boundaries and a six and seamer Nuwan Kulasekara returned the best bowling figures for Sri Lanka at 2-39. Strike bowler Lasith Malinga was taken for 50 runs in his four overs.

Sri Lanka was dismissed for 120 in its chase with Kumar Sangakkara top-scoring with 32.

Pathan, the left-arm seamer, returned 5-25 in his four overs. Lakshmipathy Balaji had 3-28.
