Indian drowns off Sharjah beach

A 31-year-old Indian man died after drowning while swimming with friend at a Sharjah beach on Friday after ignoring police warnings about bad weather conditions.

Friends and beach rescuers tied to save Ghulam M. after he was pushed deep into the sea by strong currents in Khan area but he died before they reached him.

The semi official daily Alittihad, quoting a Sharjah police statement, said the incident took place despite earlier warnings to the public against swimming on that day due to strong winds and sea currents.
