An Indian was killed and two others injured in an accident in Al Ruwais area of Abu Dhabi. The camel, which was hit by the vehicle, was also killed.

Shoukath Ali, 36, who was a supervisor in an oilfield construction company was all excited to go home to meet his pregnant wife and daughter next week, according to his relative.

Speaking to Emirates 24|7, Jahir Ali, said: “On that fateful night he was with his four friends. They were returning after picking up one of them from Abu Dhabi airport on Tuesday at about 10pm. The car hit a camel and Shoukath Ali died of severe head injuries. Two others in the vehicle are seriously injured and hospitalized.”

He added that Shoukath Ali, who was at the wheels, did not see the group of wandering camels crossing the road through a damaged fence. “A camel fell on top of the vehicle, damaging the car’s roof. A steel bar pierced into him.”

“Shoukath Ali’s wife and daughter were here on a visit recently and had just returned home. His wife, Suhra, is two months pregnant and he was planning to go home next week. In fact, he had gone shopping to go on holiday,” said his relative.

Shoukath Ali, hails from Nellaya in Palghat district of Kerala. His body is kept in Khalifa Hospital, Abu Dhabi, and will be repatriated after legal formalities are completed.

One of the survivors said that on seeing the camel fall on top of the vehicle, he immediately ducked. He said he does not remember anything about the accident as they were all unconscious.

Last May two salesmen of Mahr Foodstuff trading company died in a similar accident on Al Hamim road when their pick-up vehicle hit a stray camel.
