Indian killed by a wall in Dubai's Umm Suqeim

A 30-year-old Indian worker was killed when a wall at a construction site in Dubai collapsed on him while he was drilling, police said.

The worker, identified as NS, died in hospital just after he was plucked out of the debris at the site in Umm Suqeim on Monday noon.

Police said the man died of chest and head injuries, adding that he had apparently failed to take the necessary safety measures during work.

“We have summoned the security and safety officer at Dubai Municipality and the safety supervisor at the site for interrogation in order to determine the responsibility for this accident,” Dubai’s CID chief Brigadier Khalil al Mansoori said.

Indian school boy run over by car in Abu Dhabi

An Indian school boy was killed when he was knocked over by a car just as he tried to cross the road and go into school in Abu Dhabi on Monday.
 
The boy, who was in the fourth level at a private Indian school, died on the spot after he was hit by the car just in front of the school in Musaffah, nearly 20 km outside the capital. Police are investigating the incident, which took place in an area that witnesses busy morning traffic for the school.
 
Alittihad Arabic language daily, which reported the accident, did not make clear how the little boy, identified as Abdul Wahid, was left crossing that road alone.

Police cadet dies of heart attack in Sharjah

A 19-year-old Emirati police cadet in Sharjah died of heart attack during training just after the end of Eid Al Adha holiday on Monday, press reports said on Tuesday.
 
The boy was taking part in running training when he collapsed in front of his shocked colleagues at the Sharjah Federal police academy.
 
Doctors at Al Qassimi hospital tried to revive his heart but the boy was already dead on arrival, according to the Sharjah-based Alkhaleej newspaper.
 
'Witch' maid held in RAK
 
Ras Al khaimah police arrested an Asian housemaid on charges of resorting to sorcery to force her Emirati employer to be obedient, the press said on Tuesday.
 
The man reported the maid to the police after finding pieces of hair, talismans and other witchcraft items in his wardrobe, Alkhaleej said.
 
“He told the police that she did this to him in order to force him to obey her and like her more,” the paper said.
 
It said RAK criminal court would hear the case on November 7 and that the maid faces criminal and sorcery charges.
 
Man sues wife for insulting him
 
An Arab man in Fujairah is suing his wife for insulting him, prompting the woman to seek divorce just before she goes on trial.
 
When the judge tried to reconcile them, the husband refused while the wife confessed to have insulted him because of deep marital rifts.
 
“The woman told the judge she would seek divorce from her husband…after the couple refused to be reconciled, the judge set Nov 5 for a sentence,” Alkhaleej daily said.
