Indian Media Forum in UAE elects new officials

An association of Indian journalists in the UAE, the Indian Media Forum, has selected new office bearers for the year 2012-2013 representing various newspapers, TV channels, radio stations and Internet newspapers in the UAE.

The forum elected N Vijaya Mohan, head of Amritha Television’s Middle East operations as the new president. Ramesh Payyannur, programme director at Asianet Radio, has been elected as general secretary. V M Sathish, journalist with Emirates 24/7, has been elected as vice president.

The new office bearers replaced former office bears –E Sathish, bureau chief of Asianet Television, Middle East (former president), Jaleel Pattambi, editor, Middle East Chandrika newspaper (former general secretary) and Elvis Chummar, head of news, Middle East, at Jaihind Television (former vice president).

Other office bearers elected include Asif Iqbal of Kairali TV as the treasurer and Kamal Khassim, photo journalist from Gulf Today as joint treasurer and Abdul Salam from Gulf Malayali.com as joint secretary.

Other members of the media forum’s executive committee are: TP Gangadharan, Leo B Radhakrishnan from Radio ME, Rashmi Ranchan from Gold FM 101.3, N M Abubaker from Manorama News TV, Jobby Vazhippally from Asianet TV, N Manoharan from Kerala Kaumudi newspaper and Kabeer Edavanna from Tejas newspaper.

At the annual general body meeting held in Dubai, E Sathish, former president presented a detailed report about the members’ initiative to bail out a senior member and radio journalist who was facing jail in a cheque bouncing case in Fujiarah. Members raised money to bail out the senior journalist and relieve him from a court case of nearly Dh 1 million. The former president was appreciated for raising such a big amount at short notice and bailing out the senior member.

Indian Media Forum is an association working for the welfare of Indian journalists working in the UAE. There is a predominance of journalists working for the Malayalam media in the UAE . There are eight Malayalam TV channels, four newspapers including Mathrubhumi, several radio stations and Internet sites catering to the Keralite community in the UAE.

The new committee has decided to introduce more welfare measures for the benefit of members.
