Installation of Sharjah Fountain starts

The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) has announced that the onsite installation of the Al Majaz Waterfront Project’s of Sharjah Fountain at Khalid Lagoon has commenced. The project is scheduled for completion – and will be open to the public – by the end of this year.

The Sharjah Fountain project is part of Shurooq’s plan to develop Al Majaz Waterfront into a state-of-the-art leisure and tourism complex that offers services and facilities in compliance with the highest international standards.

Shurooq CEO Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal said that Sharjah’s Fountain, measuring 100 meters high and 220m meters, will be the largest of its kind in the region. He added that it will comprise of two large water displays as well as sound, light and laser techniques.

Shurooq’s Al Majaz Waterfront Development is being developed in the Khalid Lagoon area in Sharjah.

Installation works on the main parts of the fountain have commenced, and will be followed by the preparation of the control cabinet and laying the necessary electrical cables before applying the final touches. The Sharjah Fountain’s initial capacity will be set at five shows a day ranging from 5-10 minutes each, at 30 minute intervals.

Al Sarkal added: “Al Majaz Waterfront includes numerous facilities that will make the development an integrated family park that will be a top destination for tourists, visitors and residents of Sharjah. These facilities include a number of branded restaurants and cafes with views over the lagoon, the spectacular Musical Fountain, designated play areas for children, areas for cultural and entertainment activities, a magnificent mosque with a modern architectural design, special areas for walking, jogging and cycling, a sculpture garden, a children’s art area, public amenities, parking for 1,000 vehicles, and superb sidewalks.”

The Dh100 million Al Majaz Waterfront Project is the fruit of Shurooq’s labour to encourage investment and tourism in Sharjah, and is carried out with the aim of constructing a grand leisure park that complies with international standards, in cooperation with Sharjah government departments and establishments, as well as international companies. The project is spread over an area of 231,000 square feet.
