“There is no other city in the world that’s better fit to host this global event,” said Rabih Dabboussi, GM, UAE, Cisco.

“No better place, than a city whose vision and innovation and competitiveness makes it a fertile ground for not just what technology brings but the value it adds to the economy, environment and society.”

The three-day event, starting Sunday, will see 2,400 global decision makers and innovators meet and share their ideas.

This is an exclusive event that’s only by invitation,” he added.

“Over the next days, we will discuss about connected/smart parking, connected learning, connected/smart lighting (of cities that embed LED lights with camera and wifi).

According to Dr Aisha bin Bishir, Director General of the Smart Dubai office #smartdubai, the conference will shed light on technology will update, tweak and optimise the aviation, education, healthcare and retail industry.

“It’s part of our initiative to bring about safe, seamless technology that will benefit our citizens, residents.”

Talking about the economic value linked to transforming the city into a smart city bring to Dubai in five years, Dabboussi said, “We conducted an economic study that looked at the benefit, and the impact was equated to Dh18billion in a period of five years. But, that’s only in using 17 used cases. But, imagine what 1,000 used cases would bring.”

While digitisation is needed, Dabboussi admitted that safety is of paramount concern.

“Security is the essential foundation as we digitise. We have laws, regulations and technology in place.

“The Dubai Metro is digitised (driver-less), and it’s important that it’s not hacked.”

Internet of Things (IOT) World Forum runs from December 6 to December 8.
