Dubai immigration inspectors raiding suspected houses for illegal migrants stumbled across a two-year-old boy, an incident that triggered a probe into a possible human trade network.

The baby was found with a Bangladeshi woman, who claimed to be his mother although DNA test showed the woman was lying.

The woman, charged with prostitution and illegal stay, insisted she was the boy’s mother and that she brought him to the UAE nearly eight months ago when she came to work as a housemaid.

But police dismissed her claims as DNA tests showed that she is not his mother and UAE laws ban domestic workers coming to the UAE from bringing children with them. Immigration records also showed the woman had come alone to the country.

“The baby was found last month and the woman falsely claimed he is her son,” said Dubai’s prosecutor Yousuf Fouladh.

“This incident raises suspicions that there could be a network involved in human trade and sale of babies…,” he told the semi official Arabic language daily Alittihad.

He said the prosecution and police were investigating how the woman had obtained that baby to know his real parents.

“We have opened an investigation into the incident and have contacted all competent authorities in the UAE to know whether there is any report about a missing baby,” he said.
