Is your favourite restaurant shut? Dubai closes 53 eateries

Due to flouting of rules, Dubai Municipality stopped business of 53 food establishment temporarily during the past 6 months. It was stated by Sultan Ali Taher, head of food inspection section at the food control department of Dubai Municipality.

Most of them found to be failing in applying rules and regulations regarding storage, preparation and transport of food items.

Some others have been booked for not appointing Person In-Charge (PIC) as was directed by the civic body before. They can resume their business once they full fill the requirements.

His section conducted 12,910 inspections on the eateries in Dubai in the first half of the year and based on these, eateries have been categorized in to A,B,C,D,E according to their performance.

He said 25 food establishments have been awarded A for being ‘excellent’ and some 1,591 have been given B for their ‘very good ‘performance.

“We see that establishments get these two ranks are increasing when compared to the figures last year, thanks to the systematic inspections carried out by the food control department” he added.

The credit also can be attributed to the readiness from the establishments to follow the training programs introduced by the municipality, he observed.
According to him the other ranks given to the food establishments are as follows;

Rank C  -         5,557 establishments ( with ‘good’ performance level)

Rank D  -         359 establishments  (with  ‘medium’ performance level)

Rank E  -          29 establishments   ( with ‘poor’ performance level)

For the last rankers, the food control department has allowed a short period to better their performance by implementing what they missed during the inspections.

While talked about the stopped businesses he said the number of shops that flouted rules reduced by 20 per cent when compared to that of last years’.

He attributed this gain to the efforts of the department and stringent actions it fields to check wrong practices that risk the public health.
