It’s official: Holiday mood seizes residents as ‘Eid in Dubai’ festivities continue

Five days into the ‘Eid in Dubai’ celebrations and the shopping extravaganza doesn’t seem to let up.

Several retail outlets and malls are keeping doors open for 24 hours over the weekends, while others are welcoming shoppers until 2am for the 15-day Eid Al Adha festivity.

Meanwhile, the city is wearing its celebratory best as flags and banners rise in the winds, and sparkling lights float across the Emirate; along the city’s streets, bridges, and entrances, sketching the festive face of the City with light and colour as it welcomes this grand occasion.

Organised by Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment (DEPE), the fifth edition of ‘Eid in Dubai’ is serving up over Dh1 million in cash prizes that includes a Dubai

Shopping Malls Group promotion, which allows offered to shoppers a chance at a raffle draw by spending Dh200 at participating malls.

Participating malls will make history by opening their doors for 24 hours every Thursday and Friday during the celebrations until November 2.

Enrique Iglesias

Latino heartthrob Enrique Iglesias has already stepped up the tempo for his upcoming concert in Dubai by promising to wow his fans with his repertoire of hits.

Returning to Dubai, Iglesias’ concert is already being billed as the biggest indoor concert ever staged in the Middle East.

Being staged at the Dubai World Trade Centre on Friday, October 26, the Spanish crooner, who shot to global fame with his hit “Bailamos”, is no stranger to Dubai.

He has been to Dubai twice before already, having performed in 2004 at the Dubai Media City and at a private party in 2008.

“Memories of my last visit to the wonderful city of Dubai are still vivid, and I can’t wait to come back and perform in front of my fans, especially during the festive celebrations in Dubai,” Iglesias said.

“Music transcends many boundaries and cuts across cultures, so performing in Dubai is special to me because of its strong multi-cultural, cosmopolitan character. I can promise my fans that it will be a night to remember”.

Organised by M4 Events, tickets are selling out fast.

Rotana Concerts
Days 1-3 of Eid

As customary every year in Eid, Rotana provides top class entertainment by hosting a special programme featuring some of the best Arabic singers.

This year, Rabih Saqer will perform at the Grand Habtoor Hotel on the second day of Eid followed by a performance from Majed Al Mohandas at the same venue on the third day of Eid.

Rotana will also host Molhem Zain, Fares Karam and Nahwa on the second day of Eid at the Intercontinental Festival City Hotel.

Bollywood’s award winning playback singer Shreya Ghoshal will perform on Friday October 26th at the Madinat Arena Dubai, Jumeirah.

Organised by Oberoi Middle East Events, expect her to sing all her top film tracks, including “Saibo”, “Chikni Chamel”, “Bairi Piya” and others.

Viewed as the cultural district of Dubai, Al Khor area will witness a wide spectrum of traditional activities during Eid celebrations.

Folklore bands will perform several traditional songs and dances live at Al Seef Street, floating restaurants will have special promotions, kiosks of various products will be spread across the street, in addition to a dedicated funfair area to add to the festive mood.

There will be also be activities to help enlighten visitors on the country’s rich heritage at the Heritage and Diving Village in Bur Dubai.

Fireworks

Al Khor, Seef Road

The Dubai sky will be lit-up with spectacular fireworks until November 2, from 9pm for the Eid Al Adha holiday.

Everyone’s favourite Global Village returns this year, starting earlier for Eid Al Adha, bringing 161 days of cultural delights and shopping extravaganzas until March 30, 2013.

Harlem Globetrotters

Celebrating their 86th anniversary in 2012, Harlem Globetrotters continue their world-renowned traditions of staging jaw-dropping shows that the whole family will love.

The Harlem Globetrotters will be performing at Dubai Tennis Stadium on 25th October at 7pm, and on the 26th October at 2pm and 7pm.

Introducing people around the world to the magnificence of basketball, the team started its world tour in 1950 and hasn’t stopped since, racking up an impressive 180 performances each year.

This year, on the first day of Eid Al Adha, DEPE will dispatch a specially commissioned team to take Eid into hospitals across Dubai, offering gifts and congratulations to mothers with babies born on this special day.

DEPE will also present gifts to employees of its strategic partners, and a number of government agencies.

Wonderful surprises await 10 families arriving to Dubai to spend their Eid Al Adha holiday, as they will be chosen from Dubai International Airport arrivals and presented with Eid tokens including shopping vouchers of Dh10,000.

Drivers across Dubai might find their cars decorated with “Eid in Dubai” bumper stickers anytime until November 2. Winners will be randomly selected to receive an Dh1,000 cash reward during Eid.

Providing residents and guests the opportunity to witness the sun rise over the city of dreams, while offering panoramic views of Dubai, the 24-hour operations of At the Top, Burj Khalifa, also includes an evocative and interactive journey through the history and evolution of Dubai and Burj Khalifa

Visitors to At the Top can take advantage of discounted rates of Dh85 and Dh65, for adults and children respectively.
