Jacky’s unveils 3D printers at Gitex Shopper

Just when you thought Gitex Shopper couldn’t be more exciting, Jacky’s Electronics upped the ante by unveiling its latest range of 3D printers.

Not for the faint-hearted in terms of pricing, the two models of the MakerBot Replicator start at Dh9,500 and goes up to Dh12,000.

But as Jacky’s Electronics COO, Ashish Panjabi puts it, “the technology alone is enough to draw in serious buyers.”

So what does the MakerBot Replicator do exactly?

In the words of its CEO, Bre Pettis: “If you are a MacGyver, a Doc Brown, or have a little mad scientist in you, and want to experiment with one of the fullest featured desktop 3D printers and see where it can take you, the MakerBot Replicator 2X Experimental Desktop 3D Printer is for you.”

Using materials that can cost from Dh389 and upwards to make your 3D creations, MakerBot is essentially tied up with Thingyverse.com to help you with your nifty 3D designs with all the dimensions in place and ready to download.

While the use of 3D printers is still relatively in its early stages in the UAE, retailers are in talks with the local healthcare and education sectors in providing the technology for a greater good.

However, personal use is still limited to those willing to pay.

Said Panjabi: “For the do-it-yourself makers, the 3D printer works as a great tool in designing, architecture and provides a great level of flexibility and freedom.

“But yes, the fear of the misuse of its technology tips the balance.”
