Jailed drugs baron in new drugs deal

A major drugs dealer jailed for 10 years in Ras Al Khaimah was caught trying to smuggle large amount of narcotics into the UAE with the help of a friend abroad.

Prison guards discovered the operation after tracking calls between the dealer, identified as Murtada, and another drugs baron called Abdullah, who lives abroad.

After receiving assurances from Murtada that he would sell the stuff and clear his name in case he is arrested, Abdullah arrived in the emirate with the drugs and hid it in Murtada’s house in the Northern Emirate.

Police, who listened to the call details between the two dealers, raided that house and seized the stuff, according to local newspapers.

Murtada later told police that his accomplice has nothing to do with the smuggling but they rebuffed his claims after evidence showed he was in touch with him.

“Murtada tried to clear his friend’s name and shoulder responsibility for the operation alone on the grounds he is already in prison and would not be prosecuted.

Police said he was involved in a new smuggling operation although he was to be released from prison with a few months,” 'Emarat Al Youm' daily said.
