Jewellery heist: 8 kilos of gold stolen from Damas store

At least eight kgs of gold have been stolen from the Damas Jewellery store located in Lulu Hypermarket in Buteena in Sharjah.

An official from Damas confirmed the incident but said they are not allowed to divulge additional details.

When asked about the quantity of gold that had been stolen the official said. "We have not been authorised to speak about the incident."

According to employees of the Damas store, police investigations are on in full swing at the store.

An employee, on the condition of anonymity told this website that it is suspected that the incident occurred on Sunday night at around 2am.

The burglars could have been hiding inside the mall the previous night.

“The safety alarm went off immediately and the police arrived, but the robbers escaped by breaking a glass door of the mall,” said the employee.

According to him the exact quantity of the stolen goods is still being ascertained.

“People here are talking about at least eight kilos of gold being stolen. Everyone from the store has been fingerprinted and questioned,” he said.

This website was still awaiting a police quote on the incident.

Firm manager accused of wasting Dh80m

An appeals court in Fujeirah has opened hearings on a case involving wasting nearly Dh80.9 million by the Arab manager of a major factory in the emirate, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The manager, who is out of the country, has been accused by the company of wasting the funds by facilitating some deals that caused losses, the Arabic language daily Albayan said.

The court on Monday adjourned hearings after the defendant’s lawyer requested the summoning of his client through media announcement.

“The defence lawyer requested adjournment so his client can attend the trial and make a statement,” it said without giving further details.
